Parish of Belmont, Anglican Church Newcastle, NSW Australia

Since the dawn of time music has been part of worship. Music is sometimes described as 'the handmaid of the liturgy'. There is a fabulous array of Church music and we cover a fair range of it, however the music is never an end in itself, but rather a vehicle for the praise and worship of God.

What to Expect

The music at our different services reflects something of the diversity we celebrate as a parish family.

8.00 am Sung Eucharist

During this service we will normally sing the various responses (Dudman or another fairly well known setting).

We also sing four hymns - a mix of traditional and modern - mostly from our hymn book Hymns of Worship Songs of Praise. During the Ablutions we will normally sing a Taize or similar refrain (printed on the pew sheet.

The music is largely organ music and occasional piano music.

9.45 am Family Friendly Eucharist

At Our family centred service you will find more contemporary songs and hymns in the mix, and guitars. More of the songs at the 9.45 service will be displayed on the overhead screen.

As the children leave for Sunday School we normally sing 'Father welcomes all his children'
